Week 28 Pregnancy Update: Eggplant

I am in my last week of my 20s!  Yay!!!!!  I know I say it each week but I can’t believe how quickly this pregnancy is going.  I feel like it was just yesterday I was excited about trying for number two and now here I am excited to meet my baby boy!

Here are the stats on Baby Boy Conrad this week:

According to thebump.com:

Welcome to the third trimester! Moms-to-be who are at 28 weeks and beyond are known for their lack of sleep. Remember if you find yourself up in the middle of the night, do something relaxing. This is not the time to vacuum the house from top to bottom — even though you might feel the urge to do that at some point. Read a book, drink chamomile tea, listen to soothing music. Then try to get back to bed and get some rest! Being in the third trimester also means much of your and baby’s anatomy are ready to go — she’s prepping for breathing, and your breasts already have colostrum, which is what baby will eat the first few days until your milk comes in. You’ll also start feeling more Braxton Hicks contractions as your body gets ready for labor. Baby will keep getting bigger — and smarter — after week 28, and other than that, she just needs a few more finishing touches.

Baby, fetus at 28 weeks - BabyCenter

By this week, your baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds (about the size of a large eggplant) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She’s also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world. (babycenter.com)

How I’m Feeling Physically:

Physically week 28 was a great week.  I had moments in the afternoon of being tired but not bad at all.  I was able to get in five workouts this week and I think 2 dog walks.  I’m sorry to report I didn’t do any yoga in week 28, major fail!  I can tell my stomach is growing at a rapid rate and I’m so curious as to where the baby is in my stomach.  You would think I could tell, but I really can’t.  I still think his head is over on my left side though.  The baby is active but not nearly as much as Cameryn was.  Maybe that’s a sign I will get a chill baby this time around?  Smile  My weight gain this week wasn’t bad, maybe one or two pounds depending on the day.  At this rate in pregnancy I don’t think I have much control over how much I gain a week, I can only workout and eat healthy to keep my body feeling good.  One other thing I’ve noticed this week is that the baby is making me short of breath.  I have to reposition a lot to get comfortable.  But that’s okay I don’t have too much longer left to go.  I’ve also noticed that running is becoming harder.  Although I am still able to do it at a very slow pace.  I only run for a few minutes at a time and then walk at an incline and then repeat this over and over again.  I could probably go longer but I hate getting Braxton hicks so only going for a few minutes seems to help keep them away.

How I’m Feeling Emotionally:

Emotionally I am good.  I am getting excited to meet my little man, yet at the same time I am cherishing these last few months of it just being Cameryn.   I can’t imagine having another little baby around and I get so so so excited thinking about it.  I can’t wait for that newborn smell and all the first that come with a baby.

I have started thinking a little about labor and delivery and pulled out my Hypnobirthing book that I had with Cameryn.  I’ve yet to open it up but do plan on rereading it again very soon.  At my doctor’s appointment this past Friday I asked the doctor about correlation to having your first early and second early and she said she wasn’t worried about me going into labor early this time since I wasn’t super early with Cameryn.  I would love to avoid bed rest this time around and I think I might ask her to check me for dilation starting around 33 or 34 weeks.  I was put on bed rest last pregnancy at 34 weeks.

This past week we worked on the nursery and it is coming along nicely.  Once it is finished I will post pictures.  We still have to hang a mirror and also order some prints from Etsy and get them framed.  We are also waiting on his bedding to arrive which was on backorder from Pottery Barn Kids.  I am trying to get as much done with Keith over the weekend since everything takes twice as long with a toddler hanging around!  Smile

If I have this baby at the same time I had Cameryn then February is our last month as a family of three.  So crazy to think I could have a March baby and even crazier to think I could be having a baby next month!  I’m still predicting April 4th as his arrival date though!

At my week 28 prenatal appointment the doctor told me I was measuring perfectly for my week so I’m not measuring big anymore.  We also had an ultrasound to get sizing info on the little guys since he measured big at the week 20 ultrasound and I was measuring a few weeks ahead as well.  He did drop in his percentile from 82% to 61%.  He was a whopping 2lbs and 14 ounces!  Here are a few pictures we were able to get of him.  The tech said he was really scrunched up in a tight little ball!  She was kind enough to get us a few good pictures of his face and put them on a CD for us!  I can’t wait to see him again in about two weeks at our 3D/4D ultrasound!  I wonder if he will have changed much over the next few weeks!

Random Facts:

  • Total Weight Gain:  16lbs
  • Cravings:  Dried mango, fruit smoothies, anything light
  • Sleep:  Not great.  I am getting Cameryn transitioned into her big girl bed and have been sleeping with her until we get her a bed rail.  She is still waking up a handful of times each night but nothing like the 10-20 times she used to.
  • Best Part of Week 28:  Sizing ultrasound.  I’ll take any chance I can to see the baby!
  • What I’m Most Looking Forward To:  Scheduling out last ultrasound.  We get a fun3D/4D ultrasound for keeping all our scheduled prenatal appoints.
  • Baby Predictions:  I think he will be born of April 4th, weighing in at 7lbs 2ounces.  I think he will have dark hair and eyes, Daddy’s mouth, my nose (although his nose looks exactly like Cameryn’s and she has Keith’s nose and Daddy’s eye shape!  <—I can’t wait to see how cute he is!
  • Baby Registry:  We debated on even doing this as this is our second pregnancy but we wanted to take advantage of the great savings creating a registry gives.  So I made two.  One at Diapers.com and one at Pottery Barn Kids!  I can’t wait to buy items once the little man is here and save a little bit too with the registry completion deals!
